...I don't think they'll make a lot of profit if people don't buy it...

That's not how console sales go nowadays. In the short-term, they won't be getting any profit from sales of the consoles. wink.gif

It will cost Sony approx. 25% more than the sale price to even manufacture the machines. Xbox is in the same boat.

I just read some news on gamespot that Crytech might be in for PS3. For the game Crysis of course.

PS3 has already had problems,
the first 30,000 made were defective and had to be scrapped
(can't find the link to the news site right now)

That kind of thing is unfortunate, but it is very common. At least they were caught before they were shipped.

Xbox had it's share of problems too, after shipping. Units would crash all the time, overheat, and even scratch disks.

I think XBOX 360 is more popular because it also hooks up to the Ipod, and the Ipod has been the gadget of the year for very long and has sold millions world wide. The Ipod and XBOX are compatible and if millions have the Ipod wouldn't those same millions buy XBOX 360 instead of PS3 since the Ipod is compatible with XBOX?
And I heard Nintendos DS was selling a lot more then Ipod now? Mabey Nintendo will come out with something to beat both PS33 and Xbox 360, but I don't think thats likely Nintendos for little kids and the grafics arent as great as ps3

  1. Why is it always kids who say that Nintendo is only for kids?
Are they trying to sound old? or tough?
  2. Graphics aren't everything.

I know you are too young to remember this,

I have the oldest Nintendo, The Atari I think it's called? You know with the box controllers and stuff? Haha that thing is great. I have the first Mario and Super Mario Bro's 3. Priceless games. The best thing is those games are easier to beat than the ones now.

I mainly just buy sports games and something like a Grand theft auto or NFS underground to play for my Ps2. I don't play that much, just whenever.

Dont worry, I meant no disrespect at all

See there is a difference,
I don't mind GTA for about 3 hours or so,
but driving around doing the same things over and over gets boring after a little while

PS
GTA has some of the worst graphics of this generation,
probably because it was designed for PS2

Wow. Where'd you hear that? Is it perhaps someone's 'speculation'?

I would be disappointed to find out that I received a defective unit that was shipped even though Sony already knew it was defective. But hey, I guess that's part of the biz. There's some number, like 30,000 units out of 1 million, that's actualy an acceptible rate of defects. smile.gif

I can understand that it is possible that shipping 30,000 units is less expensive than replacing them all later. But that doesn't mean it is a good 'customer service' idea.

The better they make the game system the more problems, I had to fix my PS2 twice the first time I got it fixed under warrenty the next time it broke the day after the warrenty!!!!!And my dad wrote my names on the games (the back of the cd) so they dont work, never write your name on the games.

I dunno that for sure. I know that after a while they sold an adaptor that allowed you to play atari 2600 games. it was just a sweet machine but had a problem reading the cartridges (which like every game back in the day FOUND a way to get that dam thing working).

i think they say nintendo is more for kids becuase a bulk of their games so apeal more to kids than teenagers/adults. This nintendo Wii (revolution was such a good name, dont know why they changed it) i think is going to be the most succesful console nintendo has made since the NES days. The idea is incredible, for all those people ive seen that try to move the controller in the old days to help their character jump(ive seen so many), now u can. The lesser graphics problem will be overcome by the sheer fun that people will have playing this...and the price point does not hurt either.

On a side note, even though they said the prioce wont drop i still think they will, i just dont think they want sony to expect it and then lower their prices to compete better. Microsoft will do anything to win (see, how microsoft started if you do not believe me), and this is one of the best ways to do so. If their prices are not that much more that even the Wii, why not pay 100 bucks more for the system

PS. U have a NES that works? im impressed, mine broke down about 5 years ago, and u had to blow in the cartridge and hit reset 27 times before it would work properly (thank you roms biggrin.gif)

Yes. I did. smile.gif

I never had any problems with it, it still works fine. It's still my main DVD player. smile.gif

But I did the same thing I'm going to do with the PS3: Wait until the first wave of units have gone through the stores. As with any large-scale product launch, the rate of defects is much higher in the first wave of production.

I can't remember exactly when I bought my PS2, but there was snow on the ground and it was during the season the Raptors 1st went to the playoffs. smile.gif Oh, and I also remember paying $450 dollars for it too. sad.gif

I fully intend on purchasing a PS3 (largely because I was very please with my PSOne and PS2), but I'm not going to be lining up to but it 1st day out. I fully intend to wait and see if there are any problems or if it bombs alltogether.

ya but i really dont think it will be used to the extent of the nintendo, nor with the same sensibility. Nintendo's system is based entirly around that gimmick, so their console will have more precise control over it.

The Playstation 3 controller will also have a motion sensor system.

The PS3 controller is far inferior (motion sensing wise) to the Wiimote.

It only senses 3-axis tilt, while the Wiimote has positional sensing as well
and the analog attachment (for Wii) also has tilt sensitivity.
So you can use BOTH hands

True. And I've heard as much reported. Nintendo has gone to great lengths with their innovative design.

The PS3 controller will be able to detect multi-axis motion. For me, if all I can do is steer a car by tilting the controller, I'm set.

[Edit] For BBM, even if it only tilted to the left, he'd still be set. biggrin.gif
