Yea its a great simulation. There`s never been a sports game of any kind I can think of that goes so far to try and force you to learn how to play the sport properly. The sliding rank(A+ - F) has added a completely different element to the game. For those who haven`t played yet, nearly every action you make on the court will have either a positive or negative impact on your Grade. Make a "good Pass" your rank will rise slightly, turn the ball over and you`ll be penalized. You can take a good shot and miss and still have your grade rise, but you can make a bad shot and you`ll receive no debit. On defence, leave your man for too long and you`ll be punished, make a bad attempt at a steal and you`ll be punished, tip a pass or start a proper double team and you`ll see small gains. It`s the little things that add up. Set screens(on or off ball) keep good spacing even a proper box out all is counted while the guys pounding the steal button, overuse of the "call for pass" or letting your man light you up, or hit the offensive glass will result in an awful overall grade(despite how many points/assists/rebounds you may have grabbed that game) Just like in real life, the guy who dropped 30 points and 8 assists may also be responsible for the team loseing that game. I just LOVE how the game reflects that. Its much tougher to raise your grade then it is to lose your grade.
The emphasis is on becoming efficient conservative basketball players. I love how that translates into the online play. I only played one pickup game online but I love the direction that 2k is taking the game. they seem to be really pushing to get rid of the old 1 on 1 games and move more towards full 5 on 5 action. adding the grades to keep players focused online.
Everything you say i agree with, as far as gameplay and sim basketball goes this game is pretty close to dead on.

The bad for me? the presentation hasn`t changed THAT much from last year. seems they have just cleaned up last years game, which isn`t so bad last years game was pretty solid.
Online still has a long way to go, i wouldn`t buy this game at all if your first priority is a comfortable online experience, there is still a clear lag in the game play, its better then last year, but its very frustrating playing any game that becomes almost completely unresponsive at times.
Control, the game is completely unforgiving, you get stuck on guys while moving off ball way to easy and for way too long. Think, your running through the lane and all of a sudden your stuck trying to push the center out of the lane while your man slides out for a wide open jimmy.
Just so you know there is a way to get off of them faster, and better than hitting back and away, if you pull the left trigger (l2 for you) and then up and on an angle with the right joystick you can spin off them and go forward more.

since the game has come so far with its animations, your often stuck in animations you never wanted. sometimes due to the angle of your player, your man doesn`t react to your control. You MUST take care in keeping your character in proper position angled correctly if you want to move freely. offensively the "turbo" is far more sticky, you must use it sparingly or find yourself completely gassed with still 3 mins to go in the qtr. and totally spent by the 4th qtr. I put this in the "bad" but for me this is the real challenge of the game, 2k has been trying to add real life physics to player movement and while they still have a long way to go, I accept the some of the "WTF" moments if means the game is progressing to a more realistic feel for movement.
I personally like the turbo, since sprinting for a pronlogued period would make you more gassed over the long run, it adds to the realism for me.

To answer Jack Oakley, if your on a budget, I`d hold out till Modern warfare 2 if i had to pick between the 2, but if your just wondering if 2k10 is a big enough jump from 2k9 to rationalize the purchase, i don`t think you`ll be disappointed, the "my player" feature might be worth the price of the game by itself. Unless of course you don`t understand how to play basketball outside of video games then 2K10 may not be a very enjoyable expearance at all.
I have some other minor grips with this game too, some of which are apparently going to be addressed in an update soon.
When playing in the NBA with my player, if you play short quarter lengths you can't get as many points as everyone else and your average looks off. If you play longer then anytime you sim until you get on is wonky because they only have it set up like your quarter lengths are 5 min long and sim like it is to reach 100 points or so a game, so they score close to 25 a quarter, so simming for a couple minutes, even with 12 minute long quarters, makes the score jump huge and at the end of the game you have somewhere around 130 ppg for the team.
Further to the point, you can't adjust 2 setttings you really need to be able to: quarter length, and difficulty. They may and hopefully do fix both of these problems with the update, because i have a SG who just dominates to the point that it isn't really fun anymore, and the scores are way too high.
I also really like that passes are not spot on every time and it depends on the person throwing the pass, and also that not everyone can recieve a pass.
I haven't owned any of the years prior, so i don't know what to say with regard to getting this if you have last seasons, but the My Player is a lot of fun, especially when you are playing in the NBA, makes it feel like you're there.
