i'm still not a big fan of the multiplayer...even though the maps are incredibly rich and detailed, i still find the gameplay pretty 1 dimensional ( and because of this i tend to get a little bored with it )

i much prefer Battlefield: Bad Company for online play...you can drive tanks, trucks, gunboats and helos....much more diversified gameplay ( and the maps are huge because of the vehicles )

but NOTHING compares to the solo campaign i've been playing for the last 2 days...incredibly intense, unbelievable action and perfectly diversified missions

you will NOT be disappointed

The controls, graphics and gameplay are all just awful in that game. It's a good concept to use all the vehicles and blow up buildings etc., but its amateurish in programming.

the graphics are a little sub-par but i disagree about the controls and gameplay...both are far superior imho

there is no doubt that the solo run on Warfare is superior...but the run, duck, shoot...duck, shoot, run....shoot, run and duck strategy of the multiplayer is pretty monotonous after a bit
i like a game that's much more involved, better strategy, more options in weapons and vehicles, huge maps etc etc...Battlefield wins that "hands down"

Obviously for me Shadow I`m playing this game with friends online so I can`t possibly compare this game to any other in terms of online experience, First off the online maps are spectacular, second, playing a game with buddies sans tanks, choppers boats etc. is still a thousand times better then with but with strangers.

Haven`t played it much only about an hour or 2 so far but I`ll say this about my first impression, it`s nice to have something you anticipate to be great, deliver in spades.....

No way! All the weapons play the same, the aiming is way to wiggly, and theres only one multiplayer mode. These 2 games aren't even in the same league. The free market doesn't lie.

Well I think I am going to buy three PS3 games. I've narrowed it down to these three if they aren't sold out for Christmas.

Uncharted 2
Call of Duty: World at War
Resident Evil 5

The last two I like for the highly rated co-op play. I really like co-op more than multiplayer.

Other games which I want but can't spend all that money yet are:

Batman AA
Little Big Planet - co-op for kids and probably fun for me too.
Borderlands - looks good, but not sure.
Metal Gear Solid 4 - Best ps3 game??
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1&2 - wish it had better co-op play.
Valkyrie Chronicles, Oblivion, Dragon Age: I cant really find a top notch RPG for the ps3 based on my research.

Just noticed your post in the Christmas thread Freewheel. WELCOME to the club! Slip77 if your looking for someone to play online with, heck we could ham it up during raptor games as well, the old PS3 has a solid chat function. anyways on to the games!

I rent fairly often and I`ve played all the games you listed...(oops no not uncharted 2 but I LOVED uncharted 1) Modern Warefare 2 is the best shooter I`ve played to date, I just didn`t like the feel of "battlefield" To be fair though, I`m more accustomed to the control on MW 2. If your new to gaming online, its going to be a bit of a frustrating start, guys online are unreal, I get smoked regularly, i still find it fun as heck, and if you can rope some friends into the game its even better.

Metal gear...its like a novel, more dialog then gaming and some of the levels I couldn`t lose when I tried. Its still a fantastic game with breathtaking visuals, but if I were you I`d rent it the 2 or 3 times needed to finish the story then I`d move on.

My advice ...Rent games you can beat(batman, uncharted, metal gear etc) buy the games you want to get good at...(Modern warfare sports games etc.)

AS a basketball fan I can`t possibly suggest you pick up 2k10 enough...like Kapono pointed out...awful game online, but off line, and specifically the "my player" option is addictive and rewarding. IMO unlimited replaying value, which is what I find the problem is with quest and action titles. I noticed you didn`t list a single sports title, you might be missing out since the next gen consoles have really taken these games to a completely different level.

On a side note. guys like Fenris and BorisD would even find 2k10 interesting since the game widely uses metric stats, as well as the evaluation of "MY PLayers" game to game performance is at least some what a variation on the PDSS.

An "older" game I would look at would be Call of duty "world of war" I have buddies that still can`t put it down...mostly for the add on material(which would cost you another 9.99) but if your looking for a fun co-op experience the "nazi Zombies" Co op mini game is untouchable.

Freewheel
I have a friend with a recently purchased ps3 and he will certainly be getting fifa10. I'll probably be playing some of that with him. For some reason I don't really like sports games. A basketball game MIGHT just grab me, but it would be a reach.
This issues with multiplayer online turn me off. I hate campers and people who act like dorks and just the whole scene. That's why I prefer co-op games. I was playing the Resident Evil 5 demo last night and it was hard but all I could think of was how much fun this would be with a friend.

I'll never be as good with these dinky little hand controllers for multiplayer as I was back in the day on CS with mouse and keyboard. Its been too long and I've rusted. wink.gif

lol keyboards...yea Free i feel your pain, Most often i play Call of duty online(World of War and Modern Warefare 2) I fell out of favor with the 1st person shooter, but these games brought me back on board. I still can`t fnd another brand that keeps my attention like these 2. As for campers and dorks well what can I say, guys spend FAR more time playing then I do. there are loads of guys who play these games non stop, they know every nook and cranny of every map, they`ve figured out the high traffic area`s, pinch points and the like and some games are obviously more frustrating and discourageing then fun...that balences out when you get on with a group you can be competitive with. both games also offer solid Co-op options if the worlds most dangerous game (man) isn`t to your taste.

I loved Res Evil 1 but have slowly lost interest after sequel after sequel. I`m not saying don`t buy it, but I`d rent it to see how long it is to beat. I downloaded the demo as well, and I haven`t felt the urge to rent or buy it. but that is just me.(don`t like the controls at all)

AS for sports games...pretty sure the PSN has demos for nba live and 2k10, honestly you could rent them but it might take you 3 days just to get used to the basic controls. The "association mode" is thick, renting the game would just give you a taste, but I always find I lose interest quickly when i rent sports games since I know I won`t be able to see my season through to the end.

I was just thinking the other day about adult video gaming last night, you know, how appropriate is it for a grown man to pass an afternoon piddling around with video games and I decided, your not going to find many hobbies that are both as inexpensive and enjoyable. I can sit down with a game and for a short time i can find focus when i might have a million other things on my mind. Compared to other means of winding down I`ve explored in the past video games may be one of the more positive. For an adult i think that is priceless.

Definitely rent Uncharted 2. The length of game play is about 10 hours I would say. But those ten hours make for the best game of the year easily. It's unbelievably good.

I'm probably gonna get a lot of heat for saying this since the game is available for the 360/PS3, but World at War was awesome on the Wii. I don't know, something about having a gun in your hands makes the game that much more intense. Anyways, I personally really liked the game, but I've heard from friends that Modern Warfare 2 is by far the best of the series.

On another note, I finally got myself a PS3 (the new slim model has made people sell their older models, so I got one at a very decent price), and I'm not sure which game I should start with. I'm eventually going to get GTA IV, but I'd personally like to start with something a little different. Is NBA 2k10 any good? I currently have 2k9 for the PS2, so is it worth 50$ for 2k10 on PS3?

I asked myself the same question Money. but I`m a bit of a nerd when it comes to the basketball games, so i went ahead and picked it up. I`ve probibly played this one more then any in the past in the same amount of time. The graphics are similar between the 2 but the "my player" on 2k10 gives it a new way to play, i actually haven`t even started a regular "association" mode. I think Scully can back me up that the new mode is worth the price of the upgrade alone.

Again, don`t buy it if online games against people is what your looking for, 2k9 was awful and 2k10 is at par with that...Honestly its almost unforgivable to have done such a shoddy job with the online expearance...ESPECIALLY when they got so much heat for that last year.

I guess when they told me "As for online, Forget about last year" That was just their way of saying "forget aabout online play" Or maybe "Forget about last years online play and you won`t feel so bad shelling out the 60$ for this years game." or "forget about last years game and you won`t feel as though you`ve been burned twice."
MoneyBall
I'm really not a big online player, so that part doesn't really concern me. I just don't like dishing $50-$60 for pretty much the same game with a few insignificant additions. So yeah, thanks for the info, it's really nice to read positive feedback on the new features. You're the one who convinced me to switch from NBA Live to NBA 2k a while back, and that turned out to be one hell of a great move, so I'll take your word for it. dribble4uc.gif

I`d assume just the jump from PS2 to PS3 would make a significant enough difference to make it worth at least checking out, but 2k10 is a much nicer game all around. That feeling of " oh darn this is alot like the other one i have" didn`t last long.
Go ahead and add my to your friends list if you like: Slip77 with my son due home soon and about 2 months off I`ll probibly be online a fair bit.

So I went to a best buy and got some games. They had some sales that I couldn't miss.

A Controller came with the free game, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
Buy two games get one free:
Call of Duty: World at War
Resident Evil 5
Little Big Planet: Game of the year edition

My friend got the controller and good game which came with Uncharted 1, so I had to get the crappy game. That's ok because he'll lend me Uncharted when he's done.

Perhaps I should have gotten Modern Warfare 1 or 2 instead of LBP, but I didn't want to over do it with the shooters.

You honestly can`t go wrong at all with World of war. My brother was the first in line to pick up MW2 and all i see him playing is Nazi Zombies with World of war. if you feel like dropping another 9.99$ the last map pack (map pack 3) available at the PSN store is probibly worth the price. Der Riech(sp?) is by far the best version of the Nazi Zombie series. World of war was the game that got me back playing the 1st person shooter genre.

On a side note, my PS3 is messing with me, i can`t get online, my system won`t link with my router, which means I can`t play online...I went to bed everything was fine and I wake up and everything is messed up...BULL$$$$!
