Well I think I am going to buy three PS3 games. I've narrowed it down to these three if they aren't sold out for Christmas.
Uncharted 2
Call of Duty: World at War
Resident Evil 5
The last two I like for the highly rated co-op play. I really like co-op more than multiplayer.
Other games which I want but can't spend all that money yet are:
Batman AA
Little Big Planet - co-op for kids and probably fun for me too.
Borderlands - looks good, but not sure.
Metal Gear Solid 4 - Best ps3 game??
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1&2 - wish it had better co-op play.
Valkyrie Chronicles, Oblivion, Dragon Age: I cant really find a top notch RPG for the ps3 based on my research.
Just noticed your post in the Christmas thread Freewheel. WELCOME to the club! Slip77 if your looking for someone to play online with, heck we could ham it up during raptor games as well, the old PS3 has a solid chat function. anyways on to the games!
I rent fairly often and I`ve played all the games you listed...(oops no not uncharted 2 but I LOVED uncharted 1) Modern Warefare 2 is the best shooter I`ve played to date, I just didn`t like the feel of "battlefield" To be fair though, I`m more accustomed to the control on MW 2. If your new to gaming online, its going to be a bit of a frustrating start, guys online are unreal, I get smoked regularly, i still find it fun as heck, and if you can rope some friends into the game its even better.
Metal gear...its like a novel, more dialog then gaming and some of the levels I couldn`t lose when I tried. Its still a fantastic game with breathtaking visuals, but if I were you I`d rent it the 2 or 3 times needed to finish the story then I`d move on.
My advice ...Rent games you can beat(batman, uncharted, metal gear etc) buy the games you want to get good at...(Modern warfare sports games etc.)
AS a basketball fan I can`t possibly suggest you pick up 2k10 enough...like Kapono pointed out...awful game online, but off line, and specifically the "my player" option is addictive and rewarding. IMO unlimited replaying value, which is what I find the problem is with quest and action titles. I noticed you didn`t list a single sports title, you might be missing out since the next gen consoles have really taken these games to a completely different level.
On a side note. guys like Fenris and BorisD would even find 2k10 interesting since the game widely uses metric stats, as well as the evaluation of "MY PLayers" game to game performance is at least some what a variation on the PDSS.
An "older" game I would look at would be Call of duty "world of war" I have buddies that still can`t put it down...mostly for the add on material(which would cost you another 9.99) but if your looking for a fun co-op experience the "nazi Zombies" Co op mini game is untouchable.
