Played my first few hours of COD:WAW zombie action online with 4 strangers. That was a rush. I'll be doing that again.

Just an update on my game situation. I also bought:
Oblivion + Army Of Two. Two games for $20 (shoulda been 2 for $30 but the teller screwed it up). devil.gif
Motor Storm (used) - heard this was one of the best racing games. Haven't tried it yet.
Downloaded Super Stardust HD from PSS - had to get me one arcade shooter. I like the pretty lights. rolleyes.gif

lol, yea last christmas I made it home to visit my family and was introduced to @nazi Zombies@ by my buddy, at that point I had no interest whatsoever in 1st person shooter...a little more then a week later and picking up WAW became my first priority when I flew back to Quebec. there are 3 map pack for download(9.99$ each) on the PSN each map pack comes with a new version of nazi zombies(and 3 multiplayer maps) If you only get 1 of those get the 3rd one, Der Reich is HUGE and loads of fun, my brother bought MW2 the day it came out and all i see him playing is WAW Nazi zombies MP3.

yea I have a little cash still left in my PSN account and have been looking at picking arcade style shooter but 2k10 and MW2 has provided more then enough gaming entertainment for the time being.

I basically flipped a coin on Oblivion and Fallout. Oblivion was cheaper which probably swayed my thinking. I've already put some hours into it. I like it, but I do find it a little slow. Diablo II RPG action was more my style. I'll probably end up playing it long after I've tired of the other games.

When I tried it last night only the first zombie map was available. The other three were grayed out. Maybe I have to complete the single player game before they are all available???
I'll probably end up getting a map pack but right now I'm happy enough with what I've got. Thanks for the tip about number 3.

If you do decide on a shooter, I think Super Stardust is the best one for DL, but then I am old enough to remember the dark and grungy arcades in the malls during the early 80s. That kind of gaming seems to have mostly died out.

in the infinite wisdom of treyarchs marketing department, they want you to purchase those other 3 zombie levels as "add on" content. like i say at 9.99$ a pop I bought all three, as much because all my group bought all three as they were released, so over the span of a year...but if you only purchase 1 go with MP3 its the best Zombie level and you could care less about the fact there is only 2 multi player maps included (as opposed to 3 new multiplayer maps and one zombie level in the other 2 add ons) since thats not what your looking for.

but yea that is why they are blacked out. Money grab. They are in the game but your going to have to pay to access them. FYI my record on the first zombie map is level 32 (4 players no glitch) it gets freakin insane anywhere past 20. the 3rd zombie level has 4-5 new guns and a machine that can upgrade all your weapons, there are some special traps and something called "devil dogs" between the 3rd and the first is like night and day...ps2 to ps3.

Level 32 must be crazy. I don't think I'll get that far unless I get a whole lot of help. Mostly because I don't often use the best guns. I've always been partial to the shotguns going all the way back to Doom. I like to see the whites of their eyes...and so I die a lot.
I even used to use the pump shotty in counter strike. I've been called stupid for that, and I know I could do better but nothing is quite like doing well with the shotgun.

I`ve got buddies who swear by the upgraded shotgun, when the zombies really start swarming its nice to have a gun that hits multiple zombies in one shot. Oh yea I forgot, the later levels also have "perk cola"s they give you ---quicker reload times, one makes you harder to kill, one increases your firing rate and the last gives you a shorter time when reviving downed teammates. Its all about maximizing your $$$... The invitation to add me is still on the table, i`m not the kind of guy thats going to always be buggin you for a game, and I`ll probibly ignore your invites to play more then not but you might appreciate having someone to help teach you the ropes. Every once in a while my brother will rope me into "doing the tour" and we`ll run through all 4 levels to keep things fresh, its always nice to go back and get a feel for where the zombie game started. Its not as though we have 4 guys everytime we play and i can`t stand playing with strangers..

maybe level 27 is my record for the first zombie map....

Fallout might be the greatest game ever made. It is a matter of opinion based on whether you like this style of game, but it is one you should at least rent or play a demo if you can.

Upgrading weapons? Firing rate? I have no idea how to get those things. I only just figured out how to get in the treasure crate. It sucked too. All I ever get is crappy weapons, carbines, flame throwers, snipers. I'll stick to my double barrel.
I got to L14 last night and that was hard enough. One thing I notice is that I sure get high kill totals. I was playing with some guys who were pretty good and yet I was typically 1st or 2nd in kills. That doesn't fool me into thinking I'm any good, I think it is just a side effect of using the shotty.

this is why i can`t stand playing with strangers...its about playing as a group, its as bad to steal kills as it is to not carry your weight, kill=points points = more spins in the box one guy with a big gun Isn`t as good as 4 guys with a big gun. but most of the time the strangers you play with are just going to do their best to get theirs.

First 2 levels use the knife..its 100 points a kill as opposed to 60 with your pistol(even better, 2-3 shots with the pistol and finshing the guy off with your knife)

never use the grenades...you get no points for the kills, in the higher levels when points are no longer an issue, you need to start lobbing the thunder, but not until at least level10

The first zombie map that your playing is really just the basics, the other maps on the down loadable content are MUCH bigger, the 3rd is probibly 4 times larger. in the one your playing there is only 2 "doors" to open the whole time, the "hell" door and the couch on the stairs in the same room as the box, that is what 2000 points total to open both of those, and 950 points to take a spin with the Box...the last zombie map your opening 3 doors minimum before you even get to the box. There are a few more weapons available to you in the box in that level, there is electric fences that can be used to stem the tide of zombies, there is teleporters that can move you from one side of the map to the other and there is a machine that (with 5000 points) you can throw your gun into(say the shotgun) and it spits back out a upgraded version of that weapon.

The perk colas are just "power ups" for your guy, there are 4 types all with different effects each costing different as well. but none of this stuff is in the first map that you have...

Anyways are you hooked yet? lol Its the most addictive game I`ve played in years...When they first decided to put out the first add on map pack with the 2nd edition of "nazi Zombies" in it, due to the demand it took me almost a day to download it, it crashed the Xbox and PS3 stores network both here in North America and in the UK the demand was far too much for their servers to handle...so I`m hopeing Treyarch`s marketing department has latched on to that and a "nazi Zombie" game is in our future, seems to me with the popularity of just that mini game, taking their time and doing up a Nazi Zombie title in the future would be in their best interests...i know I would buy it.

That hadn't crossed my mind, but you're right. A full game could be built around the idea. The only problem would be a single player version. Bot teammates fighting against bot zombies would be hard to make work. Might be funny to watch though.

My strategy so far hasn't been very complicated.
I kill one zombie with my pistol, buy carbine.
Shoot zombies until I get 2200 points.
Open the door because everyone else is too cheap and saving their money for the crate.
Buy the double barrel shotty and I'm set.

As for adding you, I have been thinking about it. I usually take a little while to join things. I wanted to get my feet wet first.

There was another Nazi zombie movie. I reviewed it in the movie thread about a year ago. It was called Outpost and I gave it a 3 out of 10.

Haven't seen it, and am not going to. I don't want to know anything really about it until I play it, so if it includes any spoilers at all then I won't watch it. Today also included the release of their cinematic trailer that includes zero spoilers, looks sweet and leaves something at the end that only leaves questions. It's on xbox live.

I think I hit my ceiling at level 14 in COD zombies. I can see why people would want to play with friends to get higher. Its tough enough dragging some of these sorry players along to level 10. It takes a bit of teamwork. Nevertheless, reaching level 14 provides all the excitement I need.

I figured since it has been about 5 years since I played an online multiplayer game, that I would be no good at all, especially with so little experience with the PS3 control. Not true, I still kick tail with the double barrel.

I stopped playing the campaign and I haven't even installed Army of Two or Motor Storm yet. Got distracted. Maybe try them now that I have some holidays.

Hey Freewheel, i noticed COD WAW is offering the 3 map packs in a bundle for 25$ on the PSN. I think that is 12 regular multiplayer maps and the 3 other nazi Zombie Maps. I guess it depend on how much you enjoy the zombie maps but its a little better then the 10$ each they normally go for.

Yeah, I saw that but I'm a little on the fence. I know I'm eventually going to get those maps, but $25 still seems a bit steep for maps. That money is almost halfway towards Modern Warefare 2 which I don't have. I don't even have Modern Warefare 1.

I also still need a mike and a decent wireless keyboard so I can use the browser more smoothly. Luckily I have $100 in FutureShop gift cards to spend. biggrin.gif

I must say that I liked playing MotorStorm over the holidays. Why it doesn't have split screen is beyond me. I thought it did when I bought it. Still pretty damn good for an old game.

Little Big Planet is an awesome game to play with kids. My nephews and nieces couldn't stop laughing. I don't regret buying it at all. Don't buy it to play by yourself though.

Yea i don`t have a keyboard and browsing can be a bit of a pain sometimes, but I use the PS3 alot for that, it loads up much faster then my PC so i use it to check in on RC but if i want to type anything I`ll go back to my PC.

Yea the bundle pack is a bit expensive, and i rarely play the zombie levels on MAp packs 1-2, it had been a while since i played the first zombie map as well, so i`ll stick to my original advice, if you love "nazi Zombie" then you`ll love the Map Pack 3. Modern Warefare 2 is a great game but it has nothing like Nazi Zombies. If you can find your way to enjoying multiplayer then I`d highly suggest saving for MW2, if you find yourself getting frustrated and ending up back at NAzi Zombies then picking up map pack 3 will be much better value for your dollar.

Modern Warefare 2 has a great single player story, but it`s short and you could finish it in a weekend or two, so i wouldn`t buy it if your not looking to bust a cap in some random 12 year olds. You can get the same enjoyment out of spending 10$ in rental fees.

You should pick up a mic. I don`t use it all the time, but i`m always glad to have one when i need it. I have friends who swear by the Playstation eye, you don`t have to wear it on your head and its a web cam.. I have the bluetooth headset, i `ve had no problems with it. that said, I use the PS3 to "chat" as well and have wished i had a cam to throw up from time to time.

I don`t have Modern Warefare 1 either, i rented it, but it didn`t grab me, i didn`t give it much of a chance, but i doubt I`ll revisit it. I`m more then happy with spending my gaming hours on MW2 and 2K10.

Went back a bit searching for the brief convo we had on Bioware's Dragon Age: Origins but couldnt' find it quickly. I got the game for christmas as planned and have put in about 10 hours perhaps a bit more so far on pc. Overall I am enjoying the game. Fantasy rpg's are my genre of choice so I have high expectations for this game and again, overall i'm enjoying it.

Likes:
-depth of story.
-animation, voice acting.
-weapon, magic, armour, treasure assortments.
-quest detail and variety.

Disapointed:
-combat system(I like real-time fighting a la Oblivion, Gothic3).
-world graphics(not bad but not better than Oblivion, Gothic 3, even Witcher).

So far so good...and I would recommend it but if you're a shoot em up gamer or hack and slash this isn't the game. The combat is very strategic and thus for me boring. I don't like the idea of setting my character up to do something and then just watching him do it, but that's just me smile.gif

Just finished my first play through of Dragon Age on my XBOX (my desktop is super old and decrepit) A more action based experience on the console for sure but I believe you can also play 3rd person perspective on the PC vs. overhead view. I liked it and would recommend it to a RPG guy but I agree its not really the dungeon crawler I hoped for. Also was a little disappointed by the graphics as it has been in development for a...Dragon's Age! (insert laughter here).

The party characters were interesting and the story solid if not a complete rip off of LOTR. Overall Fallout 3 is probably the best Action RPG I've played and nothing even comes close.

I'm not sure I will put in another full play through as I've also got Fable 2 that I haven't tried yet.

Want to buy GTA Liberty City , COD MW 2 and Looking forward to Mass Effect 2.

I`m just debating now what is a more prudent move, go through the repair process, or just bite the bullet and pick up one of those fancy new ones. I still have money on my PSN account, and obviously all my save game data, and I have no idea if that can be transferred to a new console. I was looking forward to sorta showing you the ropes on some of those games I`ve been playing longer then you as well, but mostly I`m disappointed to once again be isolated from passing an afternoon shooting it up with my brother and my buddies...

Back when I had the PS2 it broke down as well, so did my Xbox, but those stayed in my little tiny apartment which was always filthy, and regularly housed half a dozen smokers, smoking non stop. This time though, I never move my system, don`t smoke(and when i did it was outside, and my house is always clean and relatively dust free i have no real explanation...maybe its a virus from ??? online but i only visited a few web sites and never had any internet problems before this. Bad news man! I've got an older 360 and I keep living in fear of the red rings of death. Yours is the first PS3 I've heard of with an issue. Sorry, I'm sure that doesn't help.

Does the $140 just include diagnose or repairs too? If its repaired is there a warranty covering the repaired unit?

I would see if FS or anyone selling the PS3 bundle w/Infamous, Uncharted and Killzone 2 for $299 is still available. You could easily sell those 3 games if you don't want them for close to $100 bucks and then have a new PS3 with a new warranty. I was sooo tempted to pick one of these up.

I would be shocked if Sony wouldn't honor/transfer your PSN account $$s but, I am completely unfamiliar with that service.

I would think you should be able to salvage your hard drive data and save games somehow. I seen this listed several times during my reading about the system.
"The PS3 is compatible with just about any 2.5-inch SATA notebook hard disk."

Your PS3 account should just be reactivated by logging in with a new machine. Just guessing though.

I would be shocked if Sony wouldn't honor/transfer your PSN account $$s but, I am completely unfamiliar with that service.

yea its strange, i turn on the system i hear the opening tune but get no video whatsoever, over the phone we did a hard reset or whatever you call it, for the video and no results, even my TV is reading the signal as 480p despite me using an HDMI cable. It stated last night, but with a little fiddling I got it up and running, then it continued to freeze. its not a power issue and I get audio but its certainly a strange glitch. could not have happened at a worse time, with all the time off i have with the new baby, i had loads of free time to pass on my video games. I guess you all are going to have to get used to me back on here flooding the board with my fascinating insight, at least for another month and a half.

The 140 is for repair, I`d assume it comes with the same 1 year policy that a new console comes with, but I`m not sure. I`m pretty sure MY PSN account will be transferable to my new system, I`m just less sure about my game save data...3 years of saved games is a harsh loss.

It appears Playstation has made my choice to buy new or repair for me...this is from their followup Email:

For Canadian Consumers:
• We currently do not offer service on systems that are outside of the Warranty* period

The warrenty period being 1 year...my system is 3....

They haven`t yet offered, at the very least, a friendly "reach around". swear.gif

Just catching up to this now BBM, but I've played this game quite a bit, and let me tell the combo so far that has worked out easily the best for me.

You: Mage, specializing in Blood Magic/Arcane. Early on learn fire spells and master that early, then equip your team (not you tho, you won't need it) with the dragon hide stuff you get since it has massive resist to fire (the max being 75%), then fire off that right on top of you and your two other buddies that can fight (Zev and altair or someone else being the best) and then have a healer sit at the back and wait healing while everyone fights in fire. They get hammered while you clean up because fire will barely hurt any of you. Use blood magic to attack, then switch it off and put on a restore health spell. You will clean up groups of enemies no problem. I'm now working on a reaver that I think might be even better once I get it going which shouldn't be too long from now, they can absorb health too as a fighter, and will draw everyone into them (so need to be a tank), and also has a spell that will damage everyone (including yourself) with spirit damage, so I just need to bulk up on that and it should be a cake.

Edit: Just realized that the healing spealing isn't a constant but something you have to cast, so well see how this goes. Might not be as easy as I thought.

That's wierd slip it sounds like we had the same problem. I also have a PS3 and it craped out back in september I believe. My system was about 2 years old, the 80 gig version.

The problem I had was freezing, the system started up fine but it just froze whenever I put a game in or played a movie, tried the hard reboot thing still nada so I decided to send it in for repair.

Your right about the year waranty, mine was two years old so the waranty was void but they still fixed it for a cost of $140 plus shipping and handling and taxes. If the $299 system was available at the time I might have just bought a new system, but it wasn't.

As far as your PSN account goes it should follow your username no matter if you buy a new system. All your downloaded content like your COD map packs are saved on your PSN account, all you have to do is go to the PS store and recover your past downloads, no cost to you, since you already bought them. all your trophy accomplishments are saved on your PSN account as well so no worries there.

Yes you do get a new year waranty once you get back your fixed system, and if your system is deemed unrepairable they replace it with a new one.

Similar it sounds like, but my system just won`t start...or at least the video won`t start, it appears to power up and it the opening chime plays but no video, one time when I was fiddling with it to try and get it to start, I got the beginning of the PS3 logo and that wavy line across but it didn`t show up completely despite the sound being normal, thats the point I new the problem was more involved then just a simple video issue...

Yea I`m not going to send it away, I have the 40GB version and I`d rather just upgrade to the 120 GB smaller sexier console. For the extra cash I`ll get 3 times the memory, another controller and I can have it tomorrow if i like, no waiting around to find out in 3 weeks to a month that the problem is caused by something I did and they`ll send it back anyways without fixing it....

What about their notice that they won`t repair out of warranty consoles from Canadian customers....Did you have any issues with that?

I blame the whole thing on Freewheel actually, it froze up for the final time when I was reading a message he sent me. He probibly attached some virus with it for giving him the gears over not wanting to sign Bosh for max money. laugh.gif

Thanks for the info on my PSN account...How about my saved games is it possible to recover that? Just in 2K10 I have over 150 games logged on "my Player" and to lose all that effort would be frustrating to say the least.

I'm hurt by that, but I'm happy to see you are going to get things resolved quickly. I guess its only cash and a PS3 is a more versatile thing to spend it on than most home electronics.
Hopefully the new ones have a longer life.

LOL I jest of course. My playstation had quickly become my favorite possession, while I`m not saying its any more then just a possession, i did use it for many different reason, chatting with friends, I use it to show family pictures on the HD TV when i have company over, and it keeps me in more regular contact with my brother who lives all the way in Alberta(and really isn`t much of a talker when its just over the phone) Never mind the money I`ve already dropped on games mics downloads etc would be all wasted if I either didn`t go ahead and pick up a new consol or try and get this one repaired.

Yea, I hooked up the old cables and still no effect. My buddy had issues with an HDMI port in his old Plasma TV so that was my first thought..but when i got half the opening load up only to freeze mid way through I knew i was in trouble.

There doesn`t seem to be any variation in price from store to store, does anyone have a preferance between EBgames/Walmart and Future shop?

BTW the "uncharted 2" bundle is unavailable anywhere anymore....

Not sure what to say about the notice you received about not repairing it if it's out of warranty! I had no trouble getting mine fixed it was sent to some place in Whitby, they sent me a box for shipping with all the labels and instructions for shipping. got it back in a few weeks. Maybe they changed their policy? I had to pay to get it fixed since the warranty time frame had elapsed.

As far as the saved game data, you can back up your saved game data I believe, just make a hard copy. I haven't done it myself but I know it can be done. Good luck Slip

Wouldn`t my PS3 need to be operational to do so? I`m such a noob.....

EDIT:

Well I went down to EBgames and picked up the very sexy 120 GB PS3 got came with god of war and little big planet... The dude that worked there said it is possble to transfer my saved games but it comes with the risk of transfering whatever might have screwed up my old playstation to the new one...so yea, back to square one, which isn`t the end of the world, should help for my MW2 efficiency stats, and will give me a reason to try a new position on 2k10...maybe a slow footed pass first PG who shoots the lights out and therefore can`t find his man anywhere?

Thats cool that you got a couple nice games. If you have some 10 year olds to play LBP with then you will get some fun out of that.
God of War is supposed to be good though I haven't played much. My buddy lent me the double pack. GOW & GOW 2.

Now you have a spare PS3 that you can open up and have a look at. I'd like that.

I was thinking about giving it to my buddy at work, he just had a kid last year, and his girl doesn`t work It might be possible to take it to an independent repair shop and get it working on the cheap if not, no real loss for him or me..

My dad is a wiz at that stuff, (electrical engineer by trade) but I wouldn`t know a transistor from a cupcake.

I suggest a athletic quick footed wingman. Use every training session for the dribble contest to just make yourself faster and better dribbling, then just drive on every play you can. I lead the league in FG% with this play and am just starting to get consistent 20pts per game every game I play now and am starting to take over now about 25 games into the first season. I have basically no jumpshot at this point still but will work on that later.

yea i just lost that player"Slip Radja" 6`8 small forward 58% FG 17% 3pt 9 rebs 23ppg 6 ast 2.4 steals and a 1.5 blks per. When the system broke down I had a 3-1 lead on the lakers in the second round of his second year of the his career(155 games logged) I was 3rd in FG% I played for the wolves and Jefferson lead the league in FG% at 62% I had my guy up to 79 ovl with low Off and Def awareness(those two values will raise your OVL the quickest) Does it kill me to have lost all of that? YOU BETCHA!

So I`m going to try and make a tall PG who can slash and shoot. I stick pretty much to the steal drill since I can easily pull the gold every time, Its really hit and miss with the dribble course for me. I`m pretty confident I can pull out 1700 to 1900 points each 8 min qtr game now, so I`m not as worried about how much the speed and quickness cost point wise, and finishing each drill with that 400 PT bonus is more important for my players progression...

The game sure gets a load more fun when you can get your dunk rating up past 85...oh well..

hey freewheel, I had an idea for the three map packs...since i bought a new PS3, all i had to do was log onto my PSN profile and re download the mappacks that are already paid for onto my new console....transferring them to my new console...Why couldn`t you do the same thing? You`d just need to log into my account download the map packs and VIOLA! 3 free zombie maps for you!. I wouldn`t mind in the slightest...You may not be able to play them on YOUR profile, but you might be able to as well. MY buddy started a new account and he had no trouble playing zombie matches he bought on his original account...or I don`t think he did. It might be worth a try...it would save you 30$..even if you couldn`t You could just play them on my profile and check them out at the very least. If so, I`ll send you the INFo on the PSN.

I have actually read something like that before, but have been afraid to try it out with my friend. Supposedly you can redownload paid for items up to 5 times.

I read that a guy created his own profile on a friend's PS3 and started a download of a game of some sort. While it was downloading he deleted his newly created profile and the program then was able to be installed under his buddies profile.
Sounds sketchy but I could see how it could work.

As for using your profile, if you sent that info to me I might give it a try, but I don't know that you should give out that kind of info to just anyone. I might be an identity thief or just a no good SOB.

By the way, I played God Of War for a good bit yesterday and it sure isn't family game. Got some T&A in there. Puzzles too, which I hate. There's nothing more frustrating when playing an action game than to wonder "What the &$% am I supposed to do?".
Anyway, it didn't get bad enough to force me to give up yet.
