Overall Fallout 3 is probably the best Action RPG I've played and nothing even comes close.
See now I played Fallout 3 on the PC and while I did like it, It didn't compare to Oblivion in my mind. The quest was pretty cool, but it was very short and completing the main quest line caused the game to finish. I like to explore the whole world and I thought after playing Oblivion and being able to continue in the game after the main quest had been completed I'd try to complete the main quest in F3 first. I did so and was disapointed to learn that was it. I had to load an old save and then start exploring the world. I found some neat things, but overall it really was a deserted wasteland with not a lot of things to find, nor random encounters to enjoy. I also hated the boundaries set up in the various cities...even with a super jump mod I was unable to really explore the place because they only wrote so much area to explore.
I liked it, but it wasn't as wide open and lacked the freedom of Oblivion.

I agree with most of your comments and haven't tried Oblivion but heard it was also a desolate kind of world with less colourful NPCs. Oblivion on the PC is probably a far better experience with the new dowloadable user content.
F3's ending was abrupt and a let down. The DLC packs for Fallout 3 fix the problem of not being able to continue exploring though. I really think Fallout 3 has taken the Action RPG controls system and user interface to a new level though. I can't wait until Bethesda's next game as it will probably rock.
Jumping into Fable 2 and GTA Episodes from Liberty City next...
I'm debating buying a new Desktop to play some PC games but, haven't found sufficient reason not get a PS3 instead. Had a session of COD MW2 on my buddies PS3 last night and it rocked.

Oblivion's world is anything but desolate... there are so many areas to discover...the map is just a mess once you've found everything

I did have to mod the game a bit as the facial textures and such weren't up to par with Gothic 3 but once I did that it was just an incredible gaming experience. 220 hours of game play if you follow every quest, scour the world and play the two expansion packs.
Oblivion and Gothic 3 are my 2 favs. I would put Witcher, Fallout and Dragon Age in order after them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2qlHoxPioMAs impressive as that is, none of the games that they played during that commercial seemed fun. Not only that, but what if I want to set up my console in my bedroom instead of my living room? There's simply not enough space to enjoy a game to it's full potential. The more I think about it, the less I like it.

Hmmm... I'll have to give it a try. As far as PC titles go I am way behind ever since I didn't buy a new computer to get into the World of Warcraft generation.
I'm still interested in PC gaming but, where's the time and Xbox makes things pretty accessible.
I might give Oblivion a try as the Game of the year edition has come down a lot used. 220 hrs = wifey is going to kill me.

I agree and that's the reason most of us "gamers" don't own a wii. I've tried my nephews and its just not for me. But, my wife has been bugging me that she would have liked WiiFIT and I can't disagree that if a low tech console like Wii can pull off a dual purpose role, XBOX and PS3 need to get in the game.
First gen games almost always suck but, there is no money in developing for a peripheral that no one owns yet so once it hits the stores, expect developers to start cracking. Bungie is supposed to be talking about a monster game for Natal already.
I am also keenly interested in the Video conferencing/facial and voice recognition aspect of the product. It will really blur the line between the product as a gaming controller and a real world practical peripheral.

My desktop crapped out about a month ago and now I have a PS3, so I probably wont be getting a desktop anytime soon. My laptop handles that job.
That being said I miss the action style RPGs on computers. Oblivion on PS3 is cool, but it doesn't beat the enjoyment I had with Diablo 2. I always wanted to try the Diablo clones Titan Quest and Sacred and now I may have missed my chance.
I feel I need more fast twitch action than I get from some of these first/third person 3d RPGs.

At the end of the day, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are all businesses looking to make a profit, and Nintendo has certainly beat it's competitors in that aspect. Not sure if this is true or not, but my friend told me that the Wii itself isn't worth more then 50$ (hardware, software, and so on) and they've still managed to sell it for several times it's actual value. Now that's good business.
I have to say though, I have both the Wii and the PS3 and both of them are great in their own ways (I'm sure you could add Xbox in there too).... for the price though, the PS3 gives you a lot more.

I have actually read something like that before, but have been afraid to try it out with my friend. Supposedly you can redownload paid for items up to 5 times.
I read that a guy created his own profile on a friend's PS3 and started a download of a game of some sort. While it was downloading he deleted his newly created profile and the program then was able to be installed under his buddies profile.
Sounds sketchy but I could see how it could work.
As for using your profile, if you sent that info to me I might give it a try, but I don't know that you should give out that kind of info to just anyone. I might be an identity thief or just a no good SOB.
By the way, I played God Of War for a good bit yesterday and it sure isn't family game. Got some T&A in there. Puzzles too, which I hate. There's nothing more frustrating when playing an action game than to wonder "What the &$% am I supposed to do?".
Anyway, it didn't get bad enough to force me to give up yet.
This is true Freewheel, I`m a small town boy, I tend to trust people too quickly and forget that not everyone is honest...you`re probibly right. If you`ve got a buddy that`s willing to give it a go, I`ll let you try out that option first.

The only 'recent' game I have picked up and played would be Borderlands (for PC) and I find myself confused at a very deep level. I am generally pulled in by two things: A good story, and good gameplay. Borderlands' story, while good, is incredibly shallow. The playable characters you choose from are never developed at all (which sort of eliminates the purpose of having set personalities.) The goals set for you in the game flow well in the game, but they are simple and uninspired. The ending left many a player confused about why they played. The gameplay was executed well, but basically boils down to 'shoot them before they shoot you.' which can become very easy if you spec properly for your weapons, and get some good drops.
So why the heck do I like this game so much? I cannot understand it. I find myself wanting to play it, even though I know exactly what is waiting for me. I laugh at the crazy geologist's banter, even though I've heard it before. I repeat the enemy's ridiculous lines in reality for no reason and make people think I'm some crazy nerd.
The only logical explaination is: It is simply fun. Especially in co-op. You snipe that guy, he explodes, your character yells something ridiculous or laughs, you laugh. You start squealing when you're getting swarmed and need to reload, then turn and take everything out in one massive spray and feel accomplished. You enter berserker mode and run screaming like a mad man punching that machine gun turret. It's just.. fun.
Long story short: If you are into shooters with RPG elements (Quests, Levels, Skill Trees, Multiple Equippable Weapons, Shield, Grenade and Class mods) and don't so much mind a somewhat lacking story, I'd say it's worth it. If you have someone to play with you, it is definitely worth it. However, if you're a story buff, do not buy this game. You will be disappointed, and will begin to focus solely on the fact that they 17 million guns are just variations of <100 models, or that there is not much enemy variation.
One last note: STRIP THE FLESH, SALT THE WOUND!

When I was buying games for my new PS3, I was specifically looking for good co-op games and Borderlands came to my attention because a lot of reviews said it was a really good co-op game. In the end I went with Resident Evil 5 for co-op.
RE5 is a good game when I played part way single, but I haven't played it with my friend yet because having a mic is a necessity for the experience.
Should I have bought Borderlands instead? Maybe I'll find out when it gets cheap.
Disposable Hero
Jan 13 2010, 02:23 PM
Unfortunately I have never played RE5 and therefore cannot really offer a valid comparison between the two. I will however say, a mic is probably necessary to get the full enjoyment out of Borderlands co-op as well. Half of the fun was laughing with my brother after we just barely got through a crazy wave of enemies in some lucky way. (LAN PC game, sitting right next to each other.) Borderlands doesn't offer anything particularly mindblowing or innovative, so most of the fun comes from interaction. The gameplay is good on its own for sure, but without the interaction it will feel a little bland; it is quite possible you'll feel it wasn't worth the money you spent.
Peoples opinions of this game differ massively from person to person, so it's hard to project what you will think of it. I recommend it if you enjoy FPS RPGs. If you are going to co-op though, have a way to communicate with your teammates.
If you're enjoying RE5, that's great. Hope you get a mic soon and can get the full experience out of the game, and then the full experience out of Borderlands when you inevitably buy it due to lack of other things you want!

I'm unbelievably pumped for this game. The trailer was incredible. I love how what you did in the original will affect how this one plays out. I'm replaying it right now.
Also I'm hoping some of you're crewmates from the last game are back with the new ones. I think I saw Garrus in the trailer.

I know of Garrus and Tali in the second one, and also that Wrex and Ashley will make an appearance too (although not sure about playability of either).
For those wondering about how everything carries, especially if you have more than 1 char to choose from (like me), when you first select a player from your previous game, you get a quick rundown of all the important things that will be carried over, so if you forgot what you did previously (like me) no worries.

In a word: Awe-wait for it-SOME! Totally hooked so far. Few things is that I still can't believe Sheppard doesn't have a jump/crouch function but the cover mechanic works well. Also the story is a bit linear so far and the planet scanning is tedious et strangely satisfying. But those are quibbles when dealing with great story and beautiful production. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out and they are already propping Mass Effect 3. Niceness.

Appearently the Playstation network is having issues with early versions on the PS3 the fatty models, I tried to log in last night after midnight for a bit of multiplayer action on call of duty MW2 but in return I recieved an error message indicating that I could not log in to the network. After a bit of research I found out it is indeed a hardware issue with the fatty models and the internal clock, something about it not being a leap year.
I then tried to see if I could play single player offline, and I got a message saying that there was a sync issue with the trophy functionality and that I had to quite the game. If I find anything else I'll post it here.
okay got it below is a release by playstation:
As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears

trophies. Please exit your game.”
When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

i've been playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for the last 2 days straight now...if you are a fan of video games then this is a "MUST HAVE"
the single player is excellent..graphics, linear storyline and sound are outstanding...multi-player is unbelievable !!...maps are huge and the general versatility of the gameplay is the best i've ever seen on a video game
only 2 things prevent me from giving this game a 10/10...still can't lay prone when sniping and there is no co-op for the campaign...because of these minor details i have to give it a 9.5/10
do yourself a favour and check this game out !!
